Overview

SpoonProxy is a complete proxy server for connecting multiple computers to the Internet. The program is designed to consume little system resources, so it doesn't severely impact the central machine. As an alternative to spending money on hardware, you can give each machine full Internet functionality in a snap. In fact, SpoonProxy should support most clients including those for Web browsing, e-mail, on-line gaming, multimedia, instant messaging and more.It is perfect for small to medium sized businesses or individuals who need to connect their entire network to the internet and removes the need to purchase dedicated hardware in order to accommodate a high level of functionality.

Notably, the program offers UDP and SOCKS5 support for programs such as ICQ. SpoonProxy provides detailed documentation for dozens of specific applications. SpoonProxy features a wizard-style dialog for quickly mapping services such as a Domain Name Server or newsgroup access. Other options include the ability to establish usernames and passwords for each person using a connected machine. You can also allow or deny access to specific addresses, and utilize a "Listen On" feature for mapped ports. The program's main interface allows you to monitor the number of connections made as well as the number of bytes written and read.

UDP Support in SpoonProxy

In an IP network, TCP and UDP are common transport layer protocols. While TCP provides a connection-oriented, reliable, full-duplex byte-stream service to an application, UDP provides a connectionless, unreliable datagram service. In other words, UDP datagrams are not guaranteed delivery, although they can be delivered with much less overhead than with TCP..

SOCKS4 and SOCKS5 Support in SpoonProxy

SpoonProxy supports SOCKS4 and SOCKS5. SOCKS extends the capabilities of your private network's internet connectivity by enabling some client software that might have trouble connecting to the internet from behind a proxy to communicate almost transparently with other internet clients.

VSOCKS Light is a simple FREE Proxy Server for Windows 95,98,NT4,2000 & XP. You can use it to access the Internet from any machine on your LAN with only a single machine being connected to the Internet by a modem, ISDN or ADSL adapter. VSOCKS Light implements a subset of the SOCKS 4 proxy protocol. This protocol can be used to proxy any TCP/IP protocol including HTTP, FTP, TELNET and NNTP.

Features include:

• Autodial and hang up the phone line as necessary, and will pass all the data between the applications running on the client PC and the Internet.
• Can be configured to act as a simple FIREWALL (we would normally recommend a more fully featured firewall however).

In summary, VSOCKS Lite offers a simple no frills connection to allow shared Internet access. It will not work with UDP protocol as used by RealAudio, NetMeeting,ICQ, MS Messenger, KaZaA and similar programs.
